As an experiment, I have uploaded all the known member group events held in March 2011 into a Google Calendar.
Using the GCM (Google Calendar Map) tool from http://chadnorwood.com/projects/gcm/, these events can be displayed by date range on an interactive zoomable map.
Notes
- The google calendar from which the events map is generated had to be hand-uploaded from a spreadsheet maintained by the Member Groups Team because I have been unable to find a way to export data from the BCS Events Calendar.
- Be aware that only Member Groups from March 2011 are currently available to be plotted in this proof-concept demo.
- The addresses of many of the events had to be hand-tuned into a form that allowed the code to put the markers in the correct places on the map.
- In the best of all possible worlds, the events map would take a live feed from the BCS events database and so be always uptodate.
- The address range handling of the GCM code may not be not fault-free. I have observed some strange results when changing the date range. I hope this at least can be fixed.
